This past weekend, Aaron and I moved into our new place: a duplex about two blocks from the sunken gardens. Moving went better than I thought it would, as we had a tremendous amount of help from both our families. We're slowly getting the place put together and figuring out where to put things. Pretty soon we're going to buy a new tv and actually getting cable, which we're both pretty excited about. The first floor alone of our new place is the same size as our entire apartment was. It's nice to feel like we're actually in a home now and to have some space. Also quite nice to be out of living in a basement, haha.
Since graduating, Aaron and I have just been working. I started my new job once again doing retail, though this time more specifically I'm working as a bridal registry consultant. The job is actually pretty enjoyable, it consists of talking to people and making things look pretty which are two things I enjoy.
However, more importantly on the work front, I got hired to teach summer school last week. I was really surprised when the district called me, because normally LPS doesn't hire someone to teach summer school unless they're already a teacher in the district. But there they were last week, calling me to come in and interview to teach creative writing. Apparently the person who was supposed to teach it had to back out. A few months ago I had an interview with the woman who does all the hiring for secondary education in the district. When she heard from the department that runs summer school that they needed someone, she sent them my file with her interview notes and a recommendation that they hire me for the position. So I went in and interviewed with them and they immediately offered me the job. I'm pretty excited because this is a great way to get my foot in the door with the district and the fact that I was recommended for the job definitely gives a boost of confidence. Now I just need to plan! Also, yesterday I received my Nebraska teaching certificate, so as far as paperwork is concerned, I'm fully licensed to be a teacher of English for grades 7-12. No matter what, Aaron and I just know that everything we're doing is for peanut and to give them a good life.
In baby news, I am currently in my 16th week.
On Monday I had an appointment with my midwife, Jill. This was a pretty quick one, just a checkup to make sure everything is on track. So far I've gained 10 pounds (yikes!) so I'm up to 135 and peanut is now the size of the palm of my hand. I got to hear the heartbeat again--a nice, strong 143 beats per minute. This time Jill was able to find it almost immediately as my uterus as moved more up into my abdomen. Right now the top of it is about 2 inches below my belly button. I asked Jill if it was normal that I'm not really showing (though I still contend that I have an itty bitty teeny tiny bump) since everyone keeps telling me that they would never guess I'm pregnant. She told me that yes, it's perfectly normal and that some women don't start showing until they're 20 or 24 weeks.
My next appointment is in one month and it will be the one where we get to learn peanut's gender--though I'm pretty sure Aaron and I will just keep calling them peanut.
